Dr. James Getts is a happily married father of five children and has worked in vocational Christian ministry for the past 30 years. During this time, he earned the degrees of Doctor of Ministry DMin, with a cognate in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg Virginia and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. James is an ordained minister in the state of Georgia eligible to provide pastoral care, counseling, and religious and sacerdotal services. He is a Presidential Member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and is board certified through the International Board of Christian Care (IBCC) as a Board-Certified Pastoral Counselor (BCPC).
Dr. Getts has become a respected advocate in the military community and in the CSRA as a suicide prevention, assessment, intervention, and recovery (PAIR) certified specialist. James is a retired and decorated U.S. Army Major and Veteran of deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). One of Dr Getts’ specialties and passions is counseling Veterans and current military members and families through the unique and difficult challenges that military life present.
Dr. Getts possesses specialty training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), personality disorders identification and management, panic disorders and management, narcissistic and emotionally abusive relationships and marriages, and healing form narcissistic victim syndrome (NVS) and trauma bonding. As a decorated combat Veteran, James is well acquainted with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has specialized training in combat trauma processing. Dr. Getts employs a wide range of therapeutic methods to include faith-based modalities (upon request) to individuals, married couples, pre-married couples, and families. In addition, James is a certified SYMBIS pre-marital, marital, and second+ marriage facilitator.
Pastoral counseling is ideal for individuals, couples, and families who are open to discussing clinical and faith-based approaches to heal wounds to the soul, emotions, and the psyche while coping with modern day challenges such as PTSD, C-PTSD, STSD, sexual trauma, abuse (emotional, spiritual, psychological, and physical), betrayal, divorce and divorce recovery, infidelity, anxiety disorders, fear, depression, grief, death, shame, blending families, toxic anger management, etc.
